The quality seems to be genuine leather. I gave to a friend for her baby shower and she loved it for her daughter.

I had been looking for little one's first pair of shoes. I received a half dozen pairs in this size from a friend, as a hand me down. However I quickly learned that, in the prewalking phase, it is nearly impossible to find a pair of shoes. They need to be 1. shaped differently (wider at the front because babies are flat footed and chubby), 2. soft soled (because babies are not supposed to wear hard soled shoes at this age), 3. easy to put on (because baby has no idea what you're doing and will not be assisting you in any way to put a shoes on), and 4. have grippy bottoms (because baby will be climbing up on everything in the pre-walking stage.) If you add to this that you would like them to look good at all, and you could be shopping for a long time. These shoes were on her in no time, were the first pair that seemed to match the shape of her foot, and stayed on all afternoon without slowing her down a bit. I don't know that you need umi as much once they start walking, but for the next few months, I think they'll be perfect.
